Grime Gutters
- These are small rubber devices that affix to the bottom of the
valve cluster to keep the "grime" that sometimes comes out of
there from getting on your clothes. If your instrument has
a real problem with this, then get one. But, remember to
clean under it often and it can leave an ugly black mark on
silver finishes. Use at your peril. Not recommended.
Price: about US$5.00. |

>BERP
- Buzz Extension Resistance Piece.
This is a small device that attaches to your leadpipe. It
allows you to buzz your mouthpiece with the same pressure and
position as if you were playing your instrument. However, I must
remind readers that too much mouthpiece buzzing can lead to
deformation of the embouchure, fatigue, and poor tone quality.
Recommended.
Price: about US$20.00. |

>Konig
and Meyer three-leg trumpet stand.
A fold-up trumpet stand that stores in the bell for easy
transport. I own a couple of these and they're very stable
and well-made. Also available in a five-leg model.
Recommended*.
Price: about US$25.00.
*Not recommended for the everyday classroom environment. |

Valve Guards. These have been popular with
trumpet players for years. They are comfortable and help
protect the valves from undue wear and/or damage. However,
if you use these you must take them off at least once
per week and clean underneath thoroughly. If not, sweat and
other accumulates will damage the finish on the valves. With
silver-plate, this damage is often permanent. Recommended
only for more advanced students and professionals.
Price: about US$8.00.
*Note: valve guards are
produced by other brands also; some of greater quality. |
